Challenge Exams (CSIS)
The Department offers students an opportunity to test out and gain credit for several of our courses. The list for CSIS is given below. All CSIS exams are administered within the department for the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 terms. Please contact us for details.
The Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business offers departmental challenge exams to earn credit for some coursework.
Procedure

The student must contact the appropriate department for the exam they are requesting before registering and paying for the exam. The department will make sure the exam is available and that the student is qualified to take the exam.

By clicking on the Departmental Challenge link on the Academics tab or accessing the Departmental Challenge page directly, the student selects the link (below) with the exam(s) they wish to register for and pays for the exam(s) with a debit or credit card through the Marketplace Store.

An email request is sent to the department.

The department contacts the student to schedule the exam(s).

If the student successfully passes the challenge exam(s), the department chair/representative will send notification to the Office of the Registrar.

Credit will be posted to the student's academic record if the student is currently enrolled.
Proctoring
All challenge exams are proctored.
Fee
The fee for each challenge exam is stated in the Schedule of Fees available on the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Bursar's Office Web site. There may be fees for software used in the testing process. These fees must be paid in advance.

To qualify for an exam, a student must

have the pre-requisites for the course.

meet any additional requirements for the exam (listed individually for each exam below).
Registering for an exam
Read the information on this page, and then click "Departmental Challenge Exams - Business." Follow the instructions to register and pay for the exam(s) you want to take. Within a week after registering, a CSIS representative will contact the student via email to schedule the exam.
Other General Information
AJB-COB challenge exams are credit by examination. More information about credit by examination is available in the current academic catalog. As with all credit by examination credit, students

cannot use a challenge exam to replace a failing course grade.

cannot take a challenge exam while enrolled in the course that is being challenged
-
cannot use a challenge exam for graduate credit.

Exam Description: This exam is delivered online and will consist of multiple choice, short answer, and fill in the blank questions. The student will also be required to complete a Web page design section in which he/she must create HTML documents. Students will be able to use the partial list of tags and their corresponding attributes, the partial list of styles and their corresponding attributes, and the example form during the exam. These resources are in the exam topics link and will be provided to the student during the exam. Students will not be able to use the Internet as a resource during the exam.

Exam Description: This is useful for students who are already well-versed in the Microsoft Office Suite. The exam is timed and consists of 5 components - Concepts, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Microsoft PowerPoint. You must also purchase an access code from the bookstore or online using a credit card for about $20. This code is one-time use only. The entire exam is delivered electronically.
