Medical and Health Humanities
Minor or earn your certificate in Medical and Health Humanities.
What is Medical and Health Humanities?
Medical and Health Humanities is a collection of related disciplines and ways of reading and thinking:
- the history of medicine
- the history of science
- literary study
- narrative medicine
Scholars working in these fields focus much of their research and writing on the ways that patients and those providing medical care use stories, illustrations and metaphors to construct meaning, and how the work of medical practitioners, storytellers, and artists has historically overlapped.
The Medical and Health Humanities minor and certificate programs are interdisciplinary, and have been designed with students of literature, philosophy, nursing and medicine, gender studies, psychology, sociology, history, and public health in mind.
You can enroll in the 9-hour certificate program to earn a certificate in Medical and Health Humanities or choose to minor in Medical and Health Humanities. The MHH minor is a 21-credit hour program.
